Rehearsal Schedule

The Marching Mountaineers rehearse twice a week during the Fall semester. Rehearsals take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 PM - 1:45 PM in Kidd Brewer Stadium. On game days, the Marching Mountaineers will rehearse in Kidd Brewer from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM in preparation for the afternoon's performance.

Pre-School Rehearsals

Members of the Marching Mountaineers report to campus one week prior to the start of classes for a week of rehearsals in preparation for the Fall. For those students living on campus, band members are allowed to move into their residence halls at this time. Meals are also provided to band members through University Food Services.

Performances

Members of the Marching Mountaineers perform, on average, eight weekends throughout the semester. These performances include home football games, select away games, exhibition performances at high school festivals, and the Boone Christmas Parade.

Academic Credit

Each member of the Marching Mountaineers may receive one hour of elective credit towards their degree program by enrolling in MUS 1100 "Marching Band." For music majors, the Marching Mountaineers serves as a major ensemble fulfilling ensemble participation requirements. Music education majors are required to participate in the marching band for a minimum of two semesters. As of the Fall of 2005, participation in Marching Band also fulfills the PE requirements of every student's core curriculum.

Auditions/Membership

Membership in the Marching Mountaineers is open to any student enrolled at Appalachian State University who has previous experience in band. Currently auditions are not required for brass and woodwind players. Auditions for the colorguard, majorette, and percussion sections are held in April of each year. Interested individuals should complete a Marching Band Intent form and return it to the Band Office.
